Submission Arts Wrestling Australian Branch
" SAW is known for variations of devastating leg locks and flowing submission holds "
Submission Arts Wrestling (SAW) is a modern Catch Wrestling based Japanese Martial Art and Combat Sport that incorporates elements from Judo, Sambo, Wrestling, and Jujits.
SAW was originated as a multi discipline Martial Arts founded 1980's by Master Hidetaka Aso who was a champion of wrestling and sambo in Japan. He is author of many textbooks, and chairman of prestigious martial arts federations and committees. Hidetaka Aso is highly regarded as the master of the science of submissions. He designed this style to be a useful fighting style in street situations as self-defence. The original student of SAW developed and tested this style through sparring and fighting against other Martial Arts styles, then made it stronger, as there was no proper MMA (Mixed Martial Arts) fighting styles in those days. This was about 10 years before the UFC tournament started in the U.S.A in 1993. Today MMA is very popular and spread worldwide. SAW is specialized as a No-Gi grappling art, and for takedowns, throws against strikes, and a variety of submission holds. Master Aso thinks that in a street situation, if you just smash your opponent onto the concrete ground that will injure them and you can submit them. Toshiyuki Ito is one of the original and oldest students of Hidetaka Aso. He arrived Australia 1993 and established the SAW Australian branch. |
